Lyon defeat PSG to win the Valais Cup trophy
Olympique Lyonnais defeated last season’s runner-up in the French league, Paris Saint-Germain, 3-2 in this evening’s Valais Cup final. After a scoreless first half, Amandine Henry gave Lyon the lead in the 48th minute as she headed the ball into the back of the net on a corner from Louisa Necib. One of PSG’s two Swedes, Kosovare Asllani, put her team back in the game just minutes later as Saki Kumagai failed to hold on to the ball, but second-half substitute Ada Hegerberg quickly responded with another goal, returning the lead to Lyon.
Two minutes into the advertised three additional minutes, PSG’s second Swedish player, Caroline Seger, once again tied the game as she found the net behind Sarah Bouhaddi. But Lyon’s newest signing, Ada Hegerberg, was apparently not willing to let the match go to penalties as she scored her second goal of the match in the 90+4th minute, securing her first title with her new team. Goals: Henry (48’), Hegerberg (60’, 90+4’) for OL; Asllani (56’), Seger (90+2’) for PSG.
Lineup: Bouhaddi - Petit, Renard, Kumagai, Dickenmann (Majri 72’) - Henry (Schelin 72’), Bussaglia, Abily - Necib, Le Sommer (Hegerberg 46’), Schelin (Thomis 46’, Le Sommer 75’)
